Swedish National Electrical Safety Board is Chairing Workshop on Power Quality and Electromagnetic Compatibility

Last week of July 2010 Swedish National Electrical Safety Board will be chairing a workshop named Power Quality and Low-Frequency EMC in Electrical Systems, including Smart Grid.

The seminar takes place in the U.S. during the annual conference organized by the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society, which is part of the global organization IEEE – The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Sponsored by IEEE EMC Society Technical Advisory Committee

The seminar is sponsored by IEEE EMC Society Technical Advisory Committee of which Dr. William A. Radasky participate with other experts in Power Quality and Electromagnetic Compatibility. Swedish National Electrical Safety Board's Director-General chairs the seminar which is organized in collaboration with Dr. Kai Sang Lock from Singapore. Later during the week the outcome of the seminar is expected to be discussed in the IEEE EMC Society Technical Advisory Committee.

– It is gratifying that the IEEE organization notes the importance of Electromagnetic Compatibility between electric grids and connected electrical equipment, including Smart Grid, says Magnus Olofsson, Director-General of Swedish National Electrical Safety Board.

The interest in EMC is increasing

The development with more and more electronics in the electric power system all the way from wind turbines, power transmission with high-voltage direct current to electronic meters and compact low energy lamps, combined with the evolving Smart Grids increases the importance and interest in Electromagnetic Compatibility.

Basically EMC is about electrical equipment to function in its electromagnetic environment and with each other. This means for example that electrical equipment should function satisfactorily despite any reasonable electromagnetic disturbances such as deviations and distortions in the feeding voltage; adequate Power Quality.
