Requirements for B

To obtain a limited authorisation, B, you must meet an education requirement and a practical experience requirement. The requirements are contained in the National Electrical Safety Board's requirements ELSÄK-FS 2017:4.

B authorisation covers electrical installation work in low voltage systems limited to work in existing final circuits consisting of:

  • installation and relocation of light fittings, switches and socket outlets with associated cables,
  • permanent connection of electrical equipment which consumes electricity with associated connector, including the extension and connection of cables to the connector,
  • disconnection of electrical equipment which consumes electricity with associated connector and cables.

Education

To meet the education requirement for a B authorisation, the applicant must have completed and passed education covering the knowledge and skill requirements in Annex 3 of the National Electrical Safety Board's regulations ELSÄK-FS 2017:4.

For example, you can meet the education requirement by completing the following courses in the existing upper secondary school curriculum (GY2011).

  • Practical electricity 100 points (ELLPRA0),
  • Power engineering 100 points (ELRELF0).

To find out more about the education requirement when you apply for authorisation, see the Education page.

Practical experience

To meet the practical experience requirement for a B authorisation, you must have worked with electricity for at least two years. Note the following:

You must have worked for at least one year in an electrical installation company carrying out electrical installation work in low voltage systems or limited work in low voltage systems (mandatory).

You also have the option of crediting other work involving electricity as part of the practical experience requirement (up to one year). The work must be in one of the fields set out in Annex 1, 2 or 3 of the authorisation regulations (ELSÄK-FS 2017:4).

To find out more about the practical experience requirement when you apply for authorisation, see the Practical experience page. This page also explains attestations for practical experience.

Qualifications gained abroad

If you are authorised as an electrician in another EEA country or Switzerland, you can apply for a corresponding authorisation in Sweden. The process is governed by the Act on the recognition of professional qualifications. Note that in order to apply for a B authorisation, you must show that you are licensed in the other EEA country or Switzerland to carry out the kinds of electrical installation work covered by a B authorisation in Sweden.

To find out more about recognition of professional qualifications and the rules governing foreign qualification, see the Qualifications gained abroad page.
