A Full authorisation
All electrical installation work.

AL Authorisation for low voltage
All electrical installation work in low voltage systems.

B Limited authorisation
Electrical installation work in low voltage systems limited to work in existing final circuits consisting of:
1. installation and relocation of light fittings, switches and socket outlets with associated cables,
2. permanent connection of electrical equipment which consumes electricity with associated connector, including the extension and connection of cables to the connector, and
3. disconnection of electrical equipment which consumes electricity with associated connector and cables.

Authorisation/identification/certificates in another EU/EEA country (step 3 of 9)

If you already have an authorisation, registration or certification as an electrician in another EEA country or Switzerland (except the Netherlands), please attach a copy of your qualifications. It must show that your authorisation is equivalent to the authorisation you are applying for in Sweden. Also note that the authorisation, registration or certification must be issued by a competent authority.

To obtain authorisation, you must meet certain education requirements. Make sure you find out exactly which requirements are relevant to the authorisation you are applying for.

N.B. If you have an authorisation, registration or certification as an electrician in another EEA country or Switzerland and already attached a copy of your qualifications, please move on to the next step.

Attach copies of attestations or certificates confirming your education, i.e. copy of the official degree, diploma or qualification certificate and academic. Translation must be provided if the documents are in a language other than Swedish, English, Norwegian, Finnish or Danish.

Practical experience (step 5 of 9)

To obtain authorisation, you must meet certain practical experience requirements. Make sure you find out exactly which requirements are relevant to the authorisation you are applying for.

Payment of application fee (step 7 of 9)

The application fee SEK 1,660, is to be paid to National Electrical Safety Board's account number 503-0333.

From outside Sweden, pay the application fee to IBAN: SE2012000000012810104492, SWIFT/BIC: DABASESX.

If the National Electrical Safety Board does not receive payment within seven days of receiving your application documents, we will send you a payment request. If you do not pay the application fee within the stated period, your application will be rejected.

Remember to include your name and personal ID number/date of birth as the payment reference or comment. We need this in order to match the payment with your application.

Personal Data Processing (step 8 of 9)

When you apply for authorisation as an authorised electrician, the Swedish National Electrical Safety Board will process your personal data. 

The National Electrical Safety Board processes your personal data for purposes of processing your application for authorisation. If you are granted authorisation, the National Electrical Safety Board may use your personal data for supervisory purposes  or to provide you with important information on, for example, regulatory changes.

How we use your personal data

If you rely on foreign qualifications in your application, the National Electrical Safety Board may need

  • to provide your details to the Swedish Council for Higher Education for purposes of assessing the education,
  • and submit your personal data to the competent authority in the EEA country where you obtained your professional qualifications. The purpose is to investigate whether you are authorised to exercise the profession in another state within the EEA. 

If, as a result of the assessment, you are granted authorisation, your name, personal identity number (or date of birth if you do not have a personal identity number) and residential address will be registered in the register of authorised electricians which the National Electrical Safety Board has a duty to maintain under Article 26 of the Electrical Safety Ordinance (2017:218).

If you have provided a Swedish personal identity number, this will be run every month against the data you have provided to the Swedish Tax Agency's population register. If you have told us about a change of address or change of name, we will transfer this information to our register of authorised electricians. The purpose is to keep your contact details updated. We obtain this information from Bisnode Business Information Group AB, 556681-5725.

Legal grounds

In order for the National Electrical Safety Board to process personal data, there must be legal grounds for the processing. The legal grounds for the relevant processing are provided in Article 6 1.e of the Data Protection Regulation, namely that processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the National Electrical Safety Board.
